The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Shmuel

Why he had such an opinion about Bruno's father and didn't told Bruno about this?

"he had seen Bruno's father on any number of occasions and couldn't understand how such a man could have a son who was so friendly and kind" (196).

As the Commandant of Auschwitz, Bruno's father was anything but pleasant to the Jews of Shmuel's side of the fence. His son was obviously not aware of this, and though Shmuel knew exactly how the soldiers treated his people, he was too nice to illuminate Bruno about his father's actions.
