The way in which we see Elsa (Brun's mother) stand up to her husband would make it hard for us to believe that she is actually afraid of him. If we look at the facts, we not only see them argue..... we see Elsa have an affair with another man...... a man under the direct command of her husband. Although, I believe she understands the power her husband holds, but I don't think she is personally afraid of him.
