Bruno does not even begin to comprehend the situation at Auschwitz. He sees his father as an important man, he is taught to respect the Fuhrer and the Fatherland, and although he sees Shmuel's presence on the other side of the fence as inexplicable..... he is too young to understand the ramifications.
