Why does Liesel return to the mayor’s house? What does this suggest about her character? Explain.

Depending upon which section of the novel you are referring the answer might vary.

Liesel returns to the Mayor's house to apologize to Ilsa for her bad behavior and cruelty. None-the-less, once she gets there.... she can't bring herself to knock on the door. In returning, we can see that Liesel is finding herself. Although she doesn't feel guilty for stealing the books.... she does feel guilty for her failure to apologize.
