I don't see this in the chapter Enter the Struggler. In part five, Liesel finds a sympathetic figure in Frau Hermann. I think Liesel suspects the mayor's wife knows about her interest in her books. I think it is a good thing for Liesel to trust her instincts. Frau Hermann turns out to be a great supporter of Liesel.
