Discuss the theme of the individual vs. society

Hans resisted being forced into the Nazi party as long as he could. Liesel, Max, and Rudy also resisted Nazi ideology in their own ways. Standing against evil and hatred was a very dangerous thing to do in fascist Germany. These characters risked their lives and the lives of each other to do just that. The price, however, was worth the danger. They were lights in the darkness that refused to bow to fascism. They knew that at individual conscience is a great weapon against fascism.
