"Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure," means that the "treasure" you are after has to be something extremely important. It's all about persuing your dreams/treasure to the fullest, because if your heart isn't in the journey you'll get nothing in return. Santiago's quest in a journey to find a treasure of gold, but the treasure he finds is worth fat more. He finds love and wisdom; the money isn't his main concern.
