Why does Jim decide that he doesn't want any more adventures?

He doesn't want any more adventures because they're too stressful; if he's not worrying about drowning or dying, he's worried about getting caught and sent back to Miss. Watson who'd sell him south. He just wants to get on with it..... safely!
