Why did Huck kill the pig?

Huck does kill a pig toward the beginning of the novel so he can use the blood of the pig when faking his death.

He spreads the blood just about everywhere because this is something that his friend Tom would do when faking a death.

Will all of the blood he takes away any doubt from the people of the town that he was actually murders.
