Huck moves in with the Widow Douglas. The Widow Douglas teaches Huck the Bible and forbids him from smoking. Her attentions towards him are complemented by her sister, Miss Watson, who also lives in the house.
The widow resolves to transform Huck onto an upstanding Southern young gentleman. Her heart is in the right place. She truly cares about Huck but her ideas of civility are at odds with Huck's free spirit and evolving value system.
