What contrast emerges immediately in these chapters?

In contrast to the previous chapters, Jim does not appear in these scenes, Huck no longer wants to travel with the King and the Duke (he's frightened and wishes to escape their authority), and Twain chooses to depict another slave family (in Jim's absence) to convey his feelings about the institution of slavery itself.
