Huck still thinks giving Jim up might be the right thing to do. Years of entrenched racism have taught Huck that slaves should belong to their owners. Huck, however, is developing his own moral code. He reflects on how much he loves Jim and figures that protecting Jim trumps Southern laws and bigotry.
