Paul and Erik are nothing alike. They are genetically brothers but that is where the similarities end. Erik is a sociopath. He is a malicious bully who derives pleasure from other people's pain. He is a good football player: a trait, which his parents seem cling to as validation for their son. Paul is a sensitive and empathetic child. He is developing a strong sense of values that differ from his brother. Erik blinded Paul for a joke, or for "fun" , it would seem. Paul carries on despite his poor eyesight helping his friends and avoiding Erik.
