The genre of Tangerine is young adult fiction, what example in the book indicates this? How do I know?

I don't know that there is an actual example within the book that you'd use as proof of "Young Adult Fiction". The entire novel revolves around Paul, who is in middle school, and his brother, Erik, who is in high school. The use of teenage characters speaks to the genre of the novel.
