I think that things had been boiling over for a long time. Paul notices Tino and Victor there so he knows scores are going to be settled. Paul actually begins to be assertive. He jumps on Coach Warner so Tino can get away. Later Paul challenges Erik and Arthur to try and hurt him. I think that Paul has had enough of the bullying and dirty tricks played on him and his friends.
