The main literary device used in Plath's poem, Mirror, is personification. Each line of the poem personifies the mirror, giving it human traits.

Whatever I see, I swallow immediately.

Meaning...... the mirror swallows the reflection.

Plath also uses hyperbole or exaggeration.....

Now I am a lake.

One last example is Plath's use of simile.

Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

In this, she compares the woman reflected in the mirror to a fish.
