When Deo came to New York City, he had no money and took a job delivering groceries. With no place to live, he made his home in Central Park, and he spent an inordinate amount of time in new York book stores reading the dictionary in order to learn the English language. Deo eventually met people, who would lead him to Columbia University where he would go to medical school.
