Explain the quote "I am outcast"

This quote is easily explained. Melinda is an outcast. She has no friends, and the people at school ostracize her. She is unwanted and even hated for the phone call she made to the police from the party. No one ever asked what happened, no one cared.... she didn't exist except as a source of ridicule.
