How are numbers (doubling, tripling, etc.) and colors important?

The number are all symbolic. For instance, the number ten is associated with the Ten Commandments of the Bible. Also evident is the use of the number five, which represents Gawain, and the pentangle (five sides), which represents Gawain's five virtues.
