Emerson's Self Reliance and Divinity School Address

Emerson challenged the status quo whether it be government or the church. He challenged the doctrine of conformity. He questioned the rules of government and the rules of the church, Holy Communion in particular. Emerson wanted people to question conformity to ideas thrust upon them by organized outside forces.
