Visual Imagery: Jake’s Drowning
Quinton creates visual imagery when he describes the incident of Jake’s drowning. The description creates a strong, vivid impression of a young boy that is drowning in the pool. Furthermore, the imagery makes it clear that Quinton was not interested in saving the young boy from drowning. The lifeguard arrives in time to save the boy though.
Gustatory imagery
Quinton explains that he feels a metallic taste in his mouth after fighting. This gustatory imagery brings out Quinton’s attitude towards fighting. Fights create a wonderful feeling in him; that is why he enjoys them. According to Quinton, the metallic taste makes him feel whole.
Auditory imagery; Quinton’s phone conversation with his mother
Quinton has a phone conversation with his mother after she arrives, and this makes him reminiscent of his teenage years. The tone of his mother’s voice indicates that Quinton’s mother understands that her son could be involved in some trouble.
Kinesthetic imagery:Quinton’s pain
Quinton’s body is painful as result of the training exercise at the gym. His whole body is sore, and he doubts whether he would ever go back to the gym to exercise again. The pain makes Quinton realizes that he is a human being; thus, he is not immune to pain.
