“There is your gold. Money is a worse poison to men's souls, and commits more murders in this awful world than these poor medicines you aren't permitted to sell. I'm selling you poison; you haven't sold me any.” (Act 5 scene 1 Line 85-89)

Romeo is giving the apothecary gold for the poison he is going to take. Romeo says that gold is like poison men. Men have done horrible things for gold. Romeo wonders why gold isn't against the law yet Apothecary’s potions are.
