Why do you think Jeremy is ridiculed by the other children?

Jeremy is ridiculed because he enjoys walking to the bus and back again with the Logan children. His friendship with the Logans earns him riducule and physical abuse from the white children, who wish to punish him for his association with the Logans, who are black.
