Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

What does this tell the reader about Lillian Jean's belief that Cassie's servant like behavior was appropriate as well as sincere?

After the hair pulling and twisting in the woods?

Lillian Jean believed herself superior to Cassie, thus, Cassie's servant-like behavior would have been seen in terms of Lillian Jean, as if she had learned her place. In context, she believed that Cassie's deference was genuine because that's the way it was supposed to be. She quickly learned that Cassie's "appropriate" behavior was just a precursor to the lesson Cassie would be teaching Lillian Jean.
