Papa is referring to the fact that the bank called in their loan, meaning they had to repay it immediately. This could mean financial ruin for the family and the loss of their land.

He means that they owe debt and the bank is demanding it now... Pretty much they will loose all they own.

It means that the Logans owe debt to the bank, and just at that time; the bank said that they need to repay it right now. [they want the land.............]
