Slavery is a motif that we see throughout the book. In Chapter 3 Crusoe sells Xury to the Portuguese captain. Crusoe appears to be sympathetic as he tries to negotiate a "good deal" for Xury: he will be free in 10 years if he converts to Christianity. Still Xury is a slve and this seems to be acceptable to Crusoe. Crusoe also willingly participates in capturing slaves in Africa.
