Considering the setting in Chimamanda's Purple Hibiscus, can we classify this work as an African work?

Since most African literary works are set in the villages or rural areas which most writers portray as Africanness, there is that tendency of having thoughts that Purple Hibiscus doesn't really portray that sense of Africanness.
