There are a few things going on here. The Bennets come from the Ball as lacking in this very regimented class structure. Elizabeth, who is particularly proud, is bothered by this. There was also the expectation that Bingley would propose to Jane. Instead they read a letter that the Bingley family and Darcy are moving to London. This is even more distressing for them!
