The antagonist in Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Cask of Amontillado'is Fortunato. Fortunato is in direct conflict with the protagonist, Montresor. Although Montresor is fiendish and rather insane, he is still the protagonist of the story and he states that Fortunato is his antagonist.
