how does the setting of tell tale heart affect the event and/or characters?

The narrator tells us that the story takes place inside a random old house about which few details are given to the reader. This allows the narrator to concentrate the details of his story on himself and the old man. I suppose an old house might also represents the old man and the insecure tone that this story has. Eventually the old house becomes a functioning tomb for the old man who falls prey to the narrator.
