God's personality is pretty hard to pin down in these lines. God, of course, is omniscient yet cannot build a strong enough argument to stop Satan. Is not stopping Satan part of God's plan? If God were truly omniscient, we would have to think everything he does is of his own choosing. God, however, comes off more as a cantankerous old man rather than an omnipotent master of the universe. He doesn't seem to want to vanquish Satan more than accept that Satan will influence people's lives in the future.
