Both Nurse Ratched and Vera Harding like to emasculate men. Vera constantly questions Dale's manhood and Nurse Ratched likes to control all the men on the ward, including the doctors. Nurse Ratched is known as the "ball-cutter" while Vera chips away at any self-worth and masculinity that Dale might have.
