That is hard to say, as Adam's narration would be speculative. If Adam were narrator, we might come to understand his reasons for the constant lies, as well as his need to appear brave and rebellious. We might get a glance of the boy behind the bravado... Adam's own fears and insecurity, and the reasons for why he believes he needs to act the way he does.
