What did George do once that made him stop playing jokes on Lennie?

George asked Lennie to jump into a lake knowing that Lennie could not swim. When the men got Lennie out, Lennie was thankful to George. Lennie forgets that George asked him to jump in the first place. George felt guilty and vowed never to play tricks on Lennie again.
