Objective:
to examine the tensions in the friendship between George and Lennie
Structure:
Divide the class into groups of four to five students. Instruct them to discuss at least three sources of tension evident in George and Lennie's relationship. These may include: the dead mouse in Lennie's pocket; the ketchup; Lennie's instructions not to speak; how Lennie restricts George's freedom, and vice versa; Lennie's action causing them to leave their previous place of employment, etc.
