Understanding Oedipus

I have to write a 3-4 page essay on the source of complication for two major characters and identify one area of intellectual inquiry and discuss the "answers" the play investigates.

I chose Public/Private Vengeance.

My problem is that I don't know how I should respond to this task.

The source of the story's complications can be found in Oedipus' murder of his father (he didn't know it was his father), and his subsequent marriage to his mother; we have murder and incest. Use the prophecy; the reaction to the prophecy, and the ensuing result of the reaction................ there's a great paper. Cause and effect.
