How should we account for the Jews lack of response to the Germans' arrival in Sighet? The creation of ghettos? Their own deportation?

This is socratic seminar questions.

In the beginning it was not such a big deal. Some even put German soldiers up in their houses. Later, with the ghettos and deportation, they were obviously upset but still hoped the war would soon be over and they might return to their old life. By the time they understood what was really happening, it was too late. I suppose, like most people, Jews in Sihet were hoping for the best in a bad situation.
