Why does Ehrenreich decide to continue her experiment in Maine?

Barbara Ehrenreich continues her experiment in a new environment. Her travels lead her to Maine, an area of more "whiteness." (Page 51) With this in mind she imagines the jobs to be more practical, but she soon realizes that "Portland is just another $6 - $7-an-hour town.
