why did ishiguro write never let me go and how does the beached boat scene help make his statement more clear?

like what social message is he trying to give out? and why did he put the scene about the beached boat in the novel? i mean he wouldnt put it in for no reason...

what is the main point of it and how is it shown in the boat scene?

our school assigned it so obviously there has to be something important in it....
