What does Mr M see as the role of a teacher that he tries to fulfil, does he succeed or fail?

Mr. M keeps an emotionally distant relationship and often tells Isabel that he will tell Thami what to do rather than ask him. I think Mr. M succeeds as far as he can in an education system that is formed around racial bias.
