My Children! My Africa!
What do you think a women's role in the family and society?
My Children My Africa
My Children My Africa
This question calls for your opinion. In Act I, Scene I, Thami argues that a woman's role is in the home, rather than to work the same jobs as men. At one point, he even makes the audience laugh by saying that he does not have milk in his breasts to feed children while his wife digs roads.
Isabel counters Thami, arguing that women should be allowed to hold the same jobs as men. She states that Africa is held back by clinging to traditional, primitive values. She also warns that arguments based on differences between sexes can easily be expanded to other groups people hold prejudices against.
