Mockingjay

Katniss was reluctant to become the Mockingjay because she didn't want to be a human symbol. She supported the rebellion and was willing to act in any way necessary to further its cause, but she didn't want to be its poster child. The people respect Katniss because she is sincere..... because her only purpose is to act in a way that will insure the safety of others. She isn't there for the show, and the people of Panem recognize that. She later takes on the role of Mockingjay for the same reason...... that the victors be given immunity....... and that President Snow is hers to eliminate.
