In Chapter 16, Grampa and Hiram argue once they return home from the trial as Grampa wants Hiram to forget about the whole ordeal. Grampa wants Hiram to never speak about this again, but Hiram continues to analyze why the men were acquitted. At dinner they are silent with one another and Hiram leaves to go for a walk afterwards.
