DO any stereotypical characterizations appear and what are the atitude twoard women in society?
As a character, Miss Brill lives in two distinct worlds. In reality she is a schoolteacher who spends her spare time volunteering and goes to the public gardens on Sundays. This part of her personality fits the stereotype of a single schoolmarm type character. Her inward life is not so stereotypical. Her inward life; however is very different. She images that she is a great actress and dresses herself in fur, most likely a fox head stole which is draped around the neck. Certainly gender roles were pretty much set. Women who married were expected to raise children and stay at home. Unmarried women worked as teachers or librarians and were expected to help with community activities. They were chaste and not scene not to have an inward life.
