Why would Portia even consider helping Antonio??

She helps Antonio for Bassanio's sake. She knows how close they are and Antonio facilitated the means for her to meet Bassanio in the first place.

Portia decides to help Antonio because he is Bassanio’s friend which means they must be similar men.

Portia seems to value friendship in her life.
