Why does Eldon’s mother want Eldon and Jimmy to leave after the confrontation?

Jimmy ends up stabbing Jinks after Jinks beat Eldon's mother. Jinks was the foreman of the crew. Eldon and Jimmy would surely get in a lot of trouble for hurting or even killing Jinks. Eldon's mother knew this and wanted the boys to leave.
