Why did Spiegelman write this book? Why did he call it Maus?

Spiegelman wrote the novel to understand his family's past.... to understand and chronicle his parents' experiences. "Maus" translates from German to mean exactly what you think it means..... mouse. Mice are pests, which need to be eliminated....
