At the end of Book I, Art calls his father a "murderer" for destroying his mother's diaries after her suicide. What does he mean by that? Is there anything metafictional about Anja's diaries?

Art saw the destruction of his mother's diaries as a kind of murder. They were the one thing she left behind, through which, he could have come to know her.
