Matilda is a little girl. She's very intelligent, loves to read, and excells at math. She is lonely, and she is neglected by her family. Because she is often bored, Matilda enjoys planning out and playing pranks.

Miss Honey is an adult and a teacher. She gives Matilda attention and encouragement. Like Matilda, her guardian neglects her. Trunchbull and Matilda's mother have a lot in common.
