What is Willie dealing with in his personal life?

Willy laments his troubles with his dance partner Hilda Samuels. We later find out that Willie has beaten Hilda which explains her absence. Willie blames Sam for setting him up with Hilda. Willie and Hilda also have a child together which complicates matters.
